Rest in peace mami ji🙏🏽The times I have met you . You have been very kind n a wonderful soul🙏🏽
It's hard to put into words the depth of love and admiration I have for my grandmother. She was the heart of our family-gentle, wise, strong and endlessly generous. Her presence filled every room and her stories stitched together generations. I'll always remember how she never allowed me to leave with an empty stomach always ensuring I get all the food I loved. She taught me that strength doesn't always roar but it can be quiet, steady and kind. Her legacy lives on in the way we care for each other, in the recipes she passed down, and in the love she gave so freely. Thank you for everything. You are deeply missed, forever loved and always remembered. Love, D
I will miss the Matriach of our family. An iron lady who has experienced many trials and tribulations along the way. Aunty Dev was an immensely strong figure in our lives, full of strength, resilience and was totally fearless. A lady with immense pride and strong faith in her religion. We were blessed to have been loved and protected by her. We will miss you tremendously dear Aunty and pray you are in a better place.
My dearest mother-in-law (mummyji), you were always there for us and helped look after my children. I remember when Dharamveer came to study at Curtin University and how he stayed with you. He has fond memories of that time. We all miss you. May Waheguru ji bless your soul.
>read onDear Masi Dev, it is with a heavy heart that I bid you farewell on your final journey from this earthly abode. Knowing you has been a pleasure. I will always treasure our chats. I have learned much from you about the yesteryears of our family. Your knowledge and memory of the Gurbani never ceased to amaze me. Though you have left your earthly abode you will always remain in the memory and hearts of those who know you. You will be missed.
>read onMata Gurdev Kaur has left us for her heavenly abode on the 5th of October 2025 at the grand age of 95. Maji’s parents were Baba Bishen Singh Ji and Babay Harnam Kaur Ji. Maji’s father Baba Bishen Singh Ji was a schoolteacher, court interpreter and acting Granthi in the Melaka Gurdwara, during the time when Sant Sohan Singh Ji travelled for Parchar and her mother Babay Harnam Kaur Ji was a housewife. Maji was the eldest of six siblings comprising of two boys and four girls. Maji was born in Ipoh (Perak) in 1930 and spent her childhood in kampung Banda Kaba, Melaka. Being the eldest she always helped her mother in raising all her siblings, especially during WW2. Maji excelled in Punjabi at an early age whilst not having a formal education she was able to recite Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Maji got married in Melaka Gurdwara to Baba Horbex Singh in 1945 and it was officiated personally by Melaka Sant Sohan Singh Ji. Maji was from Thaleke Village and Baba was from Swaddi Village in Punjab. Together they had five children Jagish Singh, Baljit Kaur, Harinder Singh, Amarjit Kaur and Pardeep Singh along with 9 grandkids and 10 great grandkids. From Melaka they then migrated to Singapore in 1955 and resided in Tanglin, Bt. Timah Yishun Newton, Changi. They then migrated over to Perth in 1988. Baba worked as a Postmaster in the Postal Department for 30 years and Maji was a housewife who raised the family at home. Activities that Maji loved and excelled in were cooking, sewing, knitting, embroidery and gardening. Maji also had a Class 3 motor vehicle license and used to fetch and send her children to school daily. Maji and Baba both travelled the world visiting India, Pakistan, England, Europe and New Zealand after retiring in 1985. Maji’s first trip to India was in the famous Rajullah Ship in 1955 which was a long journey from Singapore to Madras and then by train to Punjab. In England they saw the Queen during a procession in 1985 and after which they charged forward conquering various countries in Europe for a month. The spiritual life of Gurdev Kaur Baba Bishen Singh Ji and Babay Harnam Kaur Ji, Gurdev’s parent were both deeply religious from an early upbringing in Melaka she received blessings personally from Sant Sohan Singh Ji who also officiated their marriage. Maji used to regularly visit the temple which was a 5-minute walk from her family home in kg. Banda Kaba behind the Gurdwara. Maji has a deep desire and love for Sikhism, and she loved to recite Paath, Kirtan and Poetry. She never missed her daily Nitnem and always encouraged her children to do the same. Maji’s Parents great devotion led them to visit Siri Harmindar Sahib and many other historical gurdwaras in India and Pakistan despite difficulties travelling. They had great love for our Sikh Saints and Sages and used to serve them with great devotion whenever the opportunity arises, a blessing from Melaka Sant Ji himself. Maji despite her diminutive stature had the courage of a lion and never shirked from speaking the truth by charging head on into battle fearlessly, of course only for the good and benefit of others. Maji and Baba used to tell us to do our daily Nitnem for peace of mind, earn an honest living, help one another and abide by the five Sikh virtues Sat, Santokh, Daya, Dharm & Dhiraj. Take care of yourselves and each other and be kind and compassionate to one another. Maji wishes everyone thanks and with a heavy heart we say goodbye to our beloved Maji. Satnam Waheguru. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

Gosh, my Mami Gurdev Kaur was outstanding. She had to be, to raised Coconut, Baby, Heinde, Rani and Pradeep as that wouldn’t have been an easy task. I admired her character, ability to talk and talk, brutal honesty and her cheeky sense of humour and laughter. She had to when married to my late Mama Horbex Singh. He was the best my Mama. I was honoured to have had her at my wedding in Panjab. Her life should be celebrated with joyful memories. Now over to the family tree, my Maji Jai Kaur and Nana Sajan Singh sole survivor from that next generation is Harbajan Kaur w/o Gurcharan Singh(Chana). Read full message here.
