William George Moanariki Papara 18 March 1962 – 21 June 2025

The other day I was reminiscing about another lifetime ago growing up in Riwai St in the 60s & 70s, & it was then I discovered Willie passed away 6 months ago. We weren't mates so to speak but our lives were connected in a way, & it is pure nostalgia. I remember his home in Brazier's Grove, his mum Tilly, & his dad George who was a common sight for years driving a dark blue Bedford flatdeck lorry with Paraparaumu Timber & Hardware painted on the doors, up & down Ruapehu St. Me & Willie were in Form 2 Paraparaumu Primary School in 74. The next time our paths crossed was during his 'thug' life in the early 80s; pubs & parties. The last time we met was a brief catch up where he was living in Raumati Beach in 93. I see up until the end Willie never lost that cheeky grin & light in his eyes. The photos of Willy in recent years reminds me of those classic paintings of Maori chiefs & warriors. That was his ancestry; Willie's whanau is his legacy. Praying for his whanau: Romans5:1

Dearest Will, I was once told you die twice; first time in physical form, the second when people stop saying your name; seeing how many people you have helped, I find comfort in knowing your name will continue on another lifetime and longer. I hope you are at peace, have found calmness and more importantly are surrounded by loved ones on the other side. Love you always x
